Covid's Silver Lining

Alfresco dining is Covid’s silver lining… at least, for dogs it is.

On Monday nights my peeps head for California Avenue, Palo Alto’s “second” downtown, where touted pizza restaurant Terún offers live music for outdoor diners who also enjoy delicious salads, pizza, pasta, and other Italian dishes. A distinctly European atmosphere ensues. Pedestrians stop and listen. Some diners join the musicians in offering a song or two; children dance between the socially-distanced tables. The musicians and proprietors come by the tables to chat. It didn’t take long for my folks to figure out the environment is one in which a four-legged guest would feel more than welcome!

I kind of feel sorry for the other pups in the place, who trudge around the parklet floor, sadly scrounging for scraps. Somehow I always manage to snag a seat at the table, even when we’re joined by other friends, dog lovers, all! No people food for me, Mom says, but… being with people is reward enough. Check out this great photo of me and my friend Elaine, who joined us last week!

It’s always hard to bid farewell to summer. This year, it’s going to be especially sad to say good-bye.
